Grading periods are approximately twelve weeks in length. Report cards are usually issued on the second Monday after the end of the trimester. Grading reports for students in grades 4 through 8 are available on Teacher Ease. Interim reports are not sent home. Parents should keep updated on student progress by accessing TeacherEase.

There are separate report cards for grades preschool, kindergarten, 1-3, and 4-8. An explanation of grading is given on the report form. These report cards are recommended by the Joliet Diocese.

A parent teacher conference will be held shortly after the issuance of the first trimester report cards in late October. Both parents and teachers may schedule a conference at any other time during the school year should the need arise.

There will be two honor rolls for pupils in grades 5-8. One is for achievement and the other is for effort. Pupils may earn a place on both. Markings are based on an A as the highest and F as the lowest. All full-time subject matter carries equal weight. Four points are assigned for an A, three for a B, and two for a C. In order for a student to earn a place on the achievement honor roll, he/she must have an average of 3.0 or above. No marks may be lower than a C. While art and music grades are not figured into the average, a student will not earn a place on the honor roll if he/she has an art or music grade lower than a C.

The achievement honor roll is divided into three categories. They are:

1. All A's
2. High Honors (3.5 or above)
3. Honors (below 3.5 and at least 3.0)

Effort is marked:

• O - Outstanding
• VG - Very Good
• S - Satisfactory
• NI - Needs Improvement
• NP - No progress

To earn a place on the effort honor roll, a student may not earn any effort marks below VG.

Homework is given to supplement and reinforce the work in school. Please provide a quiet place for study in your home. It should be noted that there should not be many interruptions during this study time. Parental concern should be shown when your child has no homework or has homework that takes extreme lengths of time.

Up to an hour of homework is recommended for grades 1-6. Time should get closer to an hour as the grades progress. Ninety minutes is about the limit for grades 7-8. It is assumed, of course, that this is uninterrupted study time and that study time is used profitably at school. If your child labors to lengths much greater than this or appears under severe stress, there is cause for concern.

When students are absent, we ask that parents and students make provisions to find out what homework assignments have been made. We will be glad to help you find out what the assignments are, but you are ultimately responsible. Upon return to school, the student is responsible for turning completed work in without being asked for it.

All assignments need to be turned in on the due date. The following day, they will be considered late. On the first day of a late assignment, the grade will count only 70 percent of the actual grade. For instance, 100% on late work will only be recorded at 70%. A grade of 80% will be counted as 56%. On the second day after the due date, the assignment will count as a zero.

Please remember that if your child earns one zero, he/she will need nine grades of one hundred to have an average of ninety. It is therefore important that all assignments be completed and handed in on time.
